Why the goverment is a thorn in my side...

  • So I work overnight (11pm-7am) and I'm usually up til around 6 am or so even when I don't work those hours. I get a nice phone call from the US Department of Labor, since they are auditing all the hotels in the downtown area.
  • <phone rings irritatingly at 10 am>
  • Me: Hello?
  • USDOL: Yes hello, my name is Ian I work at the US Department of Labor. I need to ask you a few questions about your job. Do you have a few minutes?
  • Me: <grumble>
  • USDOL: EXCELLENT! So I see that you work both second and third shift.
  • Me: Yep... you woke me up. Generally people who work overnight are asleep right now...
  • USDOL: Oh well this won't take long.
  • Me: <sigh>
  • <continues to ask questions for 15 minutes>
  • USDOL: Ok well I think that is all I have to ask you. Do you have any questions for me?
  • Me: Yeah I do actually. If you knew that I worked overnights, why the FUCK would you call me so god damned early in the morning?
  • USDOL: <silence>
  • Me: Exactly what I thought. If you want people to be more cooperative, you should think about their sleep schedules if they work in the service industry.
  • USDOL: That's no way to treat a United States government employee!
  • Me: ... and how you are treating me is no way to treat a US citizen who works her ass off in hopes that she doesn't have to deal with US government employees like you! Good day sir!
  • <hangs up phone>
  • FUCK THE INSTITUTION! Ugh...
